Peformance idea
I have always loved this scene from Romeo and Juliet, and had alwqys thought how I could encorporate this type of clip into my music video.
I was watching a couple music videos of the Melophobia albumn from Cage The Elephant. Whilst listening to Shake Me Down, I came across this section where Matt Shultz is singing towards the camera under the sheets. It gives it an almost secrative feel, as if it shouldnt be happening.
I would most liekly like the encorporate this into my music video. I was struggerling how to encorporate peformance into my vidoe, and think this may be the way.

Character 1 Costume
Luna Govern Costume
I wanted to give an aneglic, pixie like feel to this characters costume. I want the overall image of my music video to be asthetically pleasing with nice cinematography; because of this I want everything to be pleasing and have meaning.
Because Luna is searching for love within herself I want a very gentle colour scheme.
- Pink
- Green
- Blue
- Purple
- Glitter
What I did today...
In todays lesson I was able to upload all of the clips I have so far filmed onto my computer. I decided to start doing editing.
This was to experiment how to use adobe and get used to it a little more before I started really editting my music video.
I had a look at changing the colours and highlights of the video to give it a nice colourwash effect.

Pitch
1) Would you enjoy watching the narrative?
The bar chart to the left shows that everyperson in the class said they would enjoy my narrative. This is very positive feed back and gives me lots and enthusiasm to take the narrative ahead.
2) Do you like the song?
is liked by the majority of the people in the class I did my pitch to. A few people said they liked the song but it wasent particulary for them and only 1 person said they didnt like it. I think this inforamtion is valuable because it shows that my target audience with be narrower than every young person ever. I like this as I am able to create a more atmospherical music video which will enlighten my specific target audeince.
3) Do you think the song has the right vibe for my narrative?
The information I gained back from this I found very interesting. Although 4/10 did not particuarly enjoy the song... they all said it was perfect for the narrative of my video. This makes me really happy and confident in my choice of song. I think it is going to work really effectively and will create the exact atmosphere I am looking for.
4) Any ideas for what I could put in my video?
The result to this question was very minimal. Next to no one has a respond for me. One girl then said that a really cool aspect I could add to the music video would be colourfull smoke flares. I loved this idea and would love to either encorporate this into my music video or in the Digipak.

MY STARS
Conection between characters & basic narrative of music video
The two girls met when they were much younger. They grew up as bestfriends. One thing lead to another and they dicoverd the love they had for each other was much deeper. This was dissagreed by their parents / guardian and they were not allowed to see each other. Apart they struggle to cope by themselfs and finally come back together, embracing each other.
Character
Name: Luna Govern
Age: 18
Background: Her parents are divorced. She currently lives with her mum who is verbally abusive. Her Farther married off and moved countires.
Luna struggles with self love and in attempt of moving on she shaves her hair to find beauty and love herself for who she is.
Why this actress is good for the role: I trust Rachel alot to peform this role to the best of her ability. I had previously taken some rough shots of her and decided it was best for her to take on this role.
Character
Name: Joy Lane
Age:18
Background: Joy grew up with a single mother. She loved Joy with every bone in her body. Her mother was diagnosed with cancer when Joy was 16, she died several month later...
Joy now leaves with her Grandmother. She lives in a complete different way and dosent agree with anything Joy does. To escape the pain of loosing her mother and not being allowed to see the girl she loves, Joy turns to a rebellious life of drugs, alcohol and sex.
Why this actress is good for this role: Katie has a detailed experince in drama, its a passion of her's. She took GCSE, A level and peformed in many productions. I trust her to take this serious role on and peforme it to the extent I desire.
Character
Name: Flume
I wanted this person to really fit the characterisation of Flume. In my version of this song, Flume is female and sings in her songs, Rather than a male DJ, who ft female and male artists.
To fit the characterisations of a 'star' I wanted to give her an overall glammed up appearance.
Why this actress is good for the role:
I chose Fiona because I completely trust her to create an overall stardom appearance and performance. She has a very detailed background within the arts, doing music, drama and musical theatre. Her singing expertise will help whilst filming to create a very realistic effect.

Like Water - Flume
It also has a female singer so I could use peformance easily if I intend to.
Melt into me
We go like water
We go like water
The idea of the water cycle tells me that water has an objective where it needs to get to, in this lyric it can state that it is fate to be together.
Bleed, we all bleed
We go like water
We go like water
Blood is a thicker source of liquid than water, it is also very personal. This suggest they have a thick bond and always come together.
Gift everything
We go like water
We go like water
All night
Up all night thinking about the other person
Close my eyes
Can’t sleep
Close my eyes
Can’t sleep
Trying to get them out of your head. A strong love that was lost and hard to let go off
Cry tonight
Give me life
Rain down on me
Cry tonight
Give me life
Rain down on me
Wants her water back. The water represents the person and their love together. Its gone and she wnats it to 'rain again'
All I need, all I need
You’re all I need, all I need
You’re all I need, you’re all I need
All I need, all I need
You’re all I need, all I need
You’re all I need, you’re all I need
All I need, all I need
You’re all I need, all I need
You’re all I need, you’re all I need
You’re all I need, all I need
You’re all I need, you’re all I need
This is pretty self explanatory. All they need is each other and everthing is content.

Song idea :When Everthing Was New
When Everthing Was New - Flume
This is an instrumental track which I found whilst trying to find inspiration for my music video.
The track is meant to convey a feeling of nostalgia/ wonder/ fear and excitment. These emotions i felt were perfect for my new narrative.
The only problem is I dont know whether we are aloud to choose a song without lyrics as the specification wants a peformance aspect to the music vidoe. Also this song is only 2 minutes and 27 seconds, I feel this isnt enough time to portray all the narrative that I want to show.
But this definitetly is the right kindof vibe I am aiming for.

Initial Ideas expanded
Over the summer I started planning out more about what I want to to with my music video. The song I have offocially decided on for my music video is 'Chinese New Year' by SALES. I really fell inlove with the song and my gut feeling for a music video I beleived I should take forward.
Break Free is a video Ruby Rose stared in, that went viral around the internet. Im using this as my basis inspiration.
I want to show the story about my friend Claire Wilson.
I wrote down all the lyrics and annotated them to pace of the music and shot length's I could use. I also started thinking about shot types I can use and the storyline I can begin to build.
Underneathe I wrote the basic story line of the narrative.

Conventions of a stereotypical music video
Camera shots : Long shots(sets location) , Close ups (Show artist singing and portrays emotion), Mid shots.
Camera movement: Tracking is used a lot to follow the artists around. also used, Pan, Tilt, Crane shots
Mise en scene: This differs depending on the importance of the representation they are trying to create. You have to relate this to the genre and narrative/ song lyrics. An example of this is if the song represents a slow pace, isolation and loneliness. Then you could place the artist inside of a wide open space with nothing inside it.
Editing: Jump cuts are often used of a predominant technique within music videos. Also are dissolved and fades.
Lighting: lighting is very important. Even within a 'dark' scene you still need to have the correct lighting which represents this but also allows you to see the artist with ease. Lighting is used with studio lights, Hand held and flood lights. This allows lots of light to be flooded in without washing out the artist. This is used to create an enhanced look.
Sound: Sound used within a music video is typically just the vocals and the track. however, this can differ if the music video contained a narrative. It may stop and you can hear dialogue.
Costume: Costume is vital to represent who the artist is. Clothes are a very easy way of stating straight away a situation. This will change depending from genre to genre.

- Pop music: Pop culture always stays on trend with the latest fashion. Artist can do this or change it up and set a new trend which then leads on to their audience following this trend.
- Rock Music: Dark colours are typically used here. Blacks and greys. Leather jackets and jeans are used a lot.
- Electro Dance: Bright exciting never seen before outfits these artists wear. Something which is relatable to the audience, but still out of grasps. Its bold and eccentric.

brainstorming ideas
Today I spent some time watching music videos and gaining thoughts and ideas. At first I seemed to struggle feeling what direction I was going in; as all the videos I was watching were all big budget music videos.
I began just listening to music instead, to see if that would give me inspiration. I found a song called Chinese New Year - SALES. I fell in love with the song and immediately began thinking of ideas which I could use for my music video.
